Archangel from heaven, grand, bold, magnificent, speaks of anew order, a new age without fear and darkness.

  Artaban

  Tenor

The fourth Magi, separated from his other colleagues, a wise, gentle, solitary soul, on a life long pilgrimage to find the Holy Child, and bestow him with his precious gift of gems.

  Zadok

  Baritone

The village leader and pagan priest, conceiver of the pagan festival. He is wild, virile, strong, wily, defiant, obsessed, and unapproachable.

  Forton

  Bass

Forton is Zadok’s right hand man and a dim, witted loyal oaf. He is a large imposing figure who follows the orders and whims of Zadok blindly.

  Malika

  Soprano

Malika is a widow and mother of the boy Tiaro. Not a native of the village, she does not believe in Agoda’s pagan gods.

  Murak

  Tenor

Murak is a simpleton and outcast of the village. He is blind in one eye, has only one good leg and one good arm.

  Tiaro

  Non-singing

Young child (roughly 8 years old), and is the son of Malika.
